Yamaha Upgrade Informations | CDR 200 to CDR 400 | CRW 2260 to CRW 4260 | Firmware

Introduction:

My upgrade-HowTo works with the SCSI-models Yamaha CDR 200 which you can upgrade to an CDR 400 and the Yamaha CRW 2260 which you can upgrade to an CRW 4260. The upgrade manual is divided into three sections. The first are informations for both (CDR 200 and CRW 2260), the second is the CDR 200 HowTo and the third is the CRW 2260 HowTo. In addition I have every firmware for the CDR200/400 and CRW 2260/4260.

Tip:

Use an additional cooler over your CD-writer to prevent a heaterror

Expectations:

• After the upgrade your Yamaha CDR 200 should be a Yamaha CDR 400 and your CRW 2260 should be a CRW 4260.
• The writer should say that he is a Yamaha CDR 400 or CRW 4260 to the SCSI-card, to Windows and to the CD-writer-programms.
• In lucky cases cases the CDR 200 has two megs of cache.

Important notes:

• Everyone does this at his own risk
• The guarantee is over :-(
• There are no problems with revision "B" and "C"
• If you install an older firmware then you can upgrade all new writers too

• After the upgrade the CD-Writer-Program says my writer has 2 megs of cache, is that true?
• If it is a CDR 200 it ist true and if it is a CRW 2260 it isn`t true. (A little firmware bug)

• Yes, it is!

• I want to convert a CD-Writer XY with brand Z, is that possible?
• No, it is only possible with the two Yamaha-recorders!

• Does it works with a Yamaha CDR 102?
• No, it only works with CDR 200 and CRW 2260.

• How many Yamaha writers you have tuned?
• Only one CDR 200 (one writer is enough).
• How many writers were tuned with success?
• I`ve stoped counting at 100!

• How many writers were tuned without success?
• Not one!
• When must I use an older firmware?
• When you have a updated writer with blinking LEDs.

• My Yamaha-recorder has read- or writeerrors, why?
• The SCSI-Parity must be enabled or you have no additional cooler over your writer and so it has a heaterror.

• Does it work with all revisions?
• Yes, only CDR 200 manufactured after April 1998 may need an older firmware. (if the LEDs are blinking). And at CDR 200 with revision A it is possible that you must use an additional wire.

• Does a upgraded Yamaha work correct with 4 times speed?
• Yes.

• Some upgraded recorders have only one meg of cache, are buffer-underruns possible
• No, the most 4x recorders have only one meg.
• Is it possible to flash another firmware into a tuned Yamaha?
• Yes, it is.
• I have a problem which isn`t solved here. How can I ask you?
